SensusAccess offers individuals the ability to convert inaccessible documents into more accessible alternative formats for personal use. However, there are limitations. The following guidance is intended to help campus community members determine if this is the right tool for their use case.
- SensusAccess does not repair inaccessible tagged PDF documents. If you already have a tagged PDF that needs additional repair, a third-party manual tagging service such as Allyant Remediation Services is recommended, or use an accessible MS Word document instead.
- SensusAccess does not guarantee WCAG or PDF/UA compliant results. Most documents converted to tagged PDF will require further remediation to meet WCAG or PDF/UA compliance.
- SensusAccess cannot convert protected (DRM) documents. Documents must be unlocked before conversion.
- SensusAccess cannot recognize mathematic or scientific notation unless notation has been properly marked up in the MS Word source document and the output is intended as an EPUB3.
- SensusAccess can convert a PowerPoint file to PDF and it will retain slide titles, logical reading order, and alternative text provided by the author. Content with Notes will not be retained in the converted file.
