About SensusAccess
SensusAccess is a self-service, document remediation and file conversion service. SensusAccess allows students, faculty, and staff to automatically convert documents into a range of alternate formats including audio (MP3 and DAISY), ePub3, digital Braille, digital large-print, and BeeLine Reader. The service can also remediate inaccessible documents such as image-only PDF files, Microsoft PowerPoint presentations, and LaTeX projects and deliver them into more accessible formats.
The SensusAccess tool is available on this page for use by any campus community member with an active @syr.edu email address. It is also available to instructors within Blackboard Ultra. To learn more, visit Use SensusAccess to Convert or Remediate Documents in Blackboard.
Intended Use
- This service is provided for the purpose of making documents more accessible and usable for people with disabilities. It is intended for personal, non-commercial instructional and educational use only.
- Users are solely responsible for complying with all applicable copyright, privacy/data security, and other laws and for any claims arising out of their use or misuse of the service.
- This service is not recommended for converting documents containing confidential/private or personally identifiable information.
Please note that SensusAccess is hosted by an external vendor, Sensus ApS. Any documents submitted to SensusAccess will be processed by Sensus ApS. Since the SensusAccess process is automated, the converted format may not be 100% accurate.
Guidance For Best Results
- SensusAccess works best for documents that are primarily text.
- The quality of the converted file depends on the quality of the original document.
- Converted files should be reviewed for accuracy and additional clean-up may be needed.
- This service is not ideal for documents with complex content including graphics, tables, and PDF forms. For additional information about limitations, visit Automated Document Remediation Limitations.
